Subway Sandwich Shop’s countywide “Food for Food” drive last weekend collected about 3,600 pounds of canned goods to feed thousands of low-income families, officials announced Wednesday.
Oxnard-based Food Share Inc. will distribute the cans of soup, tuna fish, beans and other high-protein, high-fiber foods to local nonprofit groups, charities and individuals.
“It’s a real blessing for us, because our shelves are a little bare now,” said Jewel Pedi, Food Share’s executive director. “With the downturn in the economy, donors have been a little less generous.”
