Buccaneers Lure Munoz Back

Anthony Munoz, a perennial Pro Bowl tackle for the Cincinnati Bengals, ended his brief retirement Friday, signing a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an unrestricted free agent.

Terms of the deal, negotiated without an agent, were not disclosed, but Munoz earned $950,000 last season and reportedly was seeking at least $1.5 million, plus performance bonuses.

The former USC All-American spent 13 seasons with the Bengals. He earned appearances in the Pro Bowl 11 consecutive years before shoulder and knee injuries sidelined him for eight games last season.

He announced his retirement in December, then reconsidered this spring after watching the salaries of offensive linemen soar once teams started signing unrestricted free agents.

The Buccaneers also signed Vince Workman, the Green Bay Packers’ leading rusher last season, to an offer sheet, which means the Packers have until Saturday night to match it or lose him and get a fifth-round choice from Tampa Bay in return.
