Bergeson Rejected for Schools Post

So much for the new independent spirit of the California Assembly to have been provided by the large freshman class. The vote to reject state Sen. Marian Bergeson as superintendent of public instruction (April 23) demonstrated that this will not happen.
Instead of voting for this qualified professional, the Democrats bowed to the power of Assembly Speaker Willie Brown. Perhaps they forgot they were elected to represent the interests of their constituents and not to be Brown’s minions.
