An Oxnard shipping manager for the Navy and a Moorpark ranch manager have been appointed by Gov. Pete Wilson to serve four-year terms on the Ventura County Fair Board, fair officials said Friday.
The appointments of Tony Grey and Charles Schwabauer were made to fill two vacancies on the board of the 31st District Agricultural Assn., the official name of the fair board.
They replace directors Tony Caezza of Santa Paula and Donald Leach of Ventura, whose terms expired in January. Both outgoing directors were first appointed in 1985 and served two full terms in the unpaid positions.
Grey, 55, a logistics manager at the Naval Surface Warfare Center at Port Hueneme, retired from the Navy in 1982 as a master chief petty officer. Oxnard’s Military Citizen of the Year in 1981, Grey is on the board of directors for United Way of Ventura County, St. John’s Regional Medical Center Foundation and the Navy League.
Grey is also the executive director of the Filipino American Council.
Schwabauer, 65, who was born in Fillmore, has managed the Fairview Ranch for Leavens Ranches since 1982. He has been honored as Moorpark’s Citizen of the Year twice by the Moorpark Chamber of Commerce.
Schwabauer has also served on the Ventura County Planning Commission, the county grand jury and the board of the Moorpark Unified School District. He is a member and past president of the Ventura County Farm Bureau, the Moorpark Historical Society and the Agricultural Advisory Board.
