OJAI : Part of Road Closed by Slide Reopened

A three-mile portion of California 33 above Ojai that was closed by a rockslide three months ago was reopened Monday to give campers access to a hiking trail.
State Department of Transportation workers dragged barricades blocking access to Pine Mountain Ridge in Los Padres National Forest three miles up the road to Pine Mountain Summit, Caltrans spokesman Russell Snyder said.
“There wasn’t actually any rock in the part of the road that was reopened,” Snyder said. “It was just closed to keep people away from the actual slide area.”
Six miles of twisting, narrow highway stretching to Ozena still remain closed as Caltrans and the U. S. Forest Service figure out where to put the 1,000 truckloads of rock blocking the road, Snyder said.
