Lance Armstrong of Austin, Tex., outsprinted Michael Engleman to win the first leg of the $75,000 Kmart Classic.
Armstrong took the lead after 32 miles, passing a pack of eight riders who were leading 92 bicyclists in the race, which finished at Elkins, W.Va.
