COMPTON : Teacher-Coach Denies Having Sex With Girl, 15

A Compton High School basketball coach and teacher pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of having sex with a 15-year-old girl.
Kenneth Banks, 29, surrendered in Compton Municipal Court and was arraigned on two counts of lewd acts on a child, with the special allegation that the defendant was at least 10 years older than the victim. Banks also was charged with the special allegation that, as a teacher, he occupied a position of trust.
He was released on his own recognizance and ordered to return to court July 7 for a preliminary hearing. Prosecutors have kept the girl’s identity secret and will not divulge whether she is one of Banks’ students.
