BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : Wallach Comes Off Disabled List
- Share via
Tim Wallach was activated from the disabled list Sunday and is expected to be the starting third baseman tonight when the Dodgers open a four-game series with the Colorado Rockies.
Wallach, who had never been on the disabled list in his 13-year career, is returning from a broken rib he suffered July 17 when hit by a pitch.
“It was very boring,” Wallach said of his time away. “It was not a lot of fun--almost like a helpless feeling that you can’t do anything.”
To make room for Wallach on the roster, the Dodgers sent outfielder Raul Mondesi to Albuquerque, the team’s triple-A affiliate.

After a series of shaky appearances, Dodger reliever Todd Worrell pitched a scoreless ninth inning Sunday, striking out one and walking one. . . . Reds’ third baseman Chris Sabo was ejected by plate umpire Harry Wendelstedt in the bottom of the fourth inning for arguing with third-base umpire Larry Vanover. . . . Red pitcher Jose Rijo took a small step toward soothing strained relations between players and fans. Before Sunday’s game, he stood near the visitors’ dugout at Dodger Stadium and lobbed more than a dozen baseballs into the stands, some with pinpoint accuracy to fans in the upper deck. Rijo autographed several of the balls before throwing them . . . Pedro Martinez’s eight-game winning streak ties him for 11th on the Dodgers’ all-time list. The last Dodger with a longer streak was Orel Hershiser, who won 11 in a row in 1985. Phil Regan owns the club record with 15 consecutive victories over the 1966 and 1967 seasons.
