PLATFORM : Tax Smoke Screen

Another cigarette tax would be unfair because it seems we never know where (excise tax) money is going. Even if I became ill, I probably wouldn’t get any financial assistance for my health care because I don’t believe the claims about how the revenue would be used.
When you consider the gasoline tax--you can see the benefits. For example, you see the (paving) improvements on the streets or you can see the additional lights. However, I believe the tobacco tax will probably be used just to make the budget look better.
Also, it’s really unfair to tax a single item like a pack of cigarettes so heavily. The tax should be distributed more evenly and fairly. I just think the government is taking advantage of smokers.
If they raise the tax, I’m not going to smoke as much. I smoke partially because it’s a habit but I also enjoy it. However, I would definitely smoke less because the notion of government getting more of my money bothers me.
