The Ballad of Cable Hogue (TBS Monday at 10:15 a.m.) While demonstrating man’s inhumanity to man, this rambunctious 1970 Sam Peckinpah Western also celebrates courage and a defiant ability to survive, while lamenting the passing of the frontier. Jason Robards, Stella Stevens and David Warner star.
Blue Water, White Death (TBS Monday at 11:05 p.m.) This suspenseful 1971 account of adventurer-filmmaker Peter Gimbel’s search for the most dangerous, cold-blooded predator of them all, the Great White Shark, takes you on a six-month, 12,000-mile voyage from South Africa to Ceylon and Australia.
The Story of Esther Costello (TNT Tuesday at 9 a.m.) This 1957 British film is one of the best of Joan Crawford’s later career. Crawford plays a well-meaning American socialite who is exploited in her attempt to help a poor girl (Heather Sears) who is blind and hard-of-hearing.
