An unidentified man whose body was found Saturday near railroad tracks in Northridge died when he was struck by a passing train, authorities have determined.
The victim’s body was discovered by teen-agers walking next to the railroad tracks near the intersection of Balboa and Roscoe boulevards, said Sgt. Ron Kubitsky of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Devonshire Division.
The coroner’s office took the body, but it was not known when an autopsy will be performed, authorities said.
While authorities have determined the cause of death, it is unclear when the man was killed. Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at 1:55 p.m., said Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles City Fire Department.
Police responded to the call and secured the scene until personnel from the coroner’s office arrived. Investigators hoped to locate such clues as paint chips or metal fragments that could help place the time of death and find what type of train killed the man, Kubitsky said.
