The city police building will be named after former police chief and mayor Wayne H. Bornhoft in ceremonies at 2 p.m. today.
A group of Bornhoft’s friends raised the money to pay for new signs on the building at 237 W. Commonwealth Ave. Bornhoft died last November.
Bornhoft became chief in 1957 and served for 20 years. He was elected to the City Council in 1978 and served for four years, twice as mayor.
A one-block section of Highland Avenue between Commonwealth and Amerige avenues will be closed to traffic from 1 to 3 p.m. to accommodate the ceremony.
