GARDEN GROVE — To say Los Amigos scored early and often would be an understatement.
The host Lobos got two first-quarter touchdowns, one before its first offensive snap, en route to a 44-14 rout of Santiago in a Garden Grove League game Friday at Garden Grove High School.
Two of Santiago quarterback Christian Cortez’s 30 passes were intercepted, the first on the game’s opening play. Lobo cornerback Jake Sanchez picked off the errant pass and ran untouched 24 yards into the end zone to start the deluge.
Los Amigos (6-1, 3-1) scored on its next drive as Ape Tuato connected with Noah Tagatauli on a 40-yard screen pass to open the Lobos’ lead to 13-0 only 2 minutes 57 seconds into the contest.
Greg Fausto scored on a 14-yard run and Sauaga Leofa scored from the one to give the Lobos a 26-0 halftime lead.
Fumble returns of 40 and 23 yards by Satele Nui and George Vargas opened a 44-0 lead with 3:14 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Santiago (0-7, 0-4) escaped its third shutout as Cortez found Juan Tinoco on scoring strikes of three and 35 yards in the final quarter.
Cortez completed 13 or 30 passes for 204 yards.
