The human remains that were discovered after fire swept through brush near Point Mugu have been identified as a woman in her 30s, a coroner’s official said Friday.
The woman’s identity and the cause of death have not been determined, although investigators are reviewing several missing-person reports, Senior Deputy Coroner Jim Wingate said.
Officials believe the woman was dead long before the body was discovered Thursday by repair workers restoring electric lines along Pacific Coast Highway, Wingate said.
An autopsy of the skeletal remains will be completed by Monday, he said.
