One person was killed and nine were injured in gang-related shootings Wednesday night in Long Beach and Venice, police said.
In Long Beach, six people were injured, two seriously, in a drive-by attack on the Spongberg Mortuary in the 400 block of East Market Street, where about 200 people were gathered about 8 p.m. to view the bodies of two of three people killed in a gang-related attack at a house on Friday night, police said.
“This is assumed to be retribution for the Friday evening shooting,” said Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Karen Kerr.
Witnesses told police that several youths, some on foot and some riding in a slow-moving Buick Regal with a loud muffler, opened fire on the gathering. Among the injured was a pregnant 16-year-old, but her fetus was not harmed, police said.
In Venice, four people were shot, one fatally, at 6th and Brooks avenues. A Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said a hostile crowd gathered immediately after the 8:20 p.m. shooting, which police believe was gang-related.
