Alfred Villalobos

“Official’s Past Includes Lawsuits, Bankruptcy” (Oct. 24) failed to study a most important part of judging a civil servant--how he serves the city.
As a designer of a project that is to replace what was burned during the riots, my client and I had the fortune of being assisted by Alfred Villalobos. Rarely in my years of dealing with various people at City Hall have I met a person that commands such a high level of competence, astuteness and affinity to people’s problems.
Indeed, your ungraceful description of (L.A. Deputy Mayor) Villalobos’ far past explained to me that only a person who has experienced the ups and downs of the real world, like Villalobos, could acquire the affinity and care that he exercised in helping us so effectively. I met Villalobos only twice but I was very impressed with his enthusiasm, energy and efficiency--a rarity in City Hall. I strongly believe that he is a fine choice for the position.
