OUTLOOK
The Tillers are led by Gottlieb, who Ground said is “probably the best point guard in the county.” Gottlieb averaged 10 points and six assists last year. “He’s got great court sense, and he’s an extra-smart, solid player,” Ground said. “He elevates the level of his teammates quite a bit.” Aguilar joins Gottlieb in the backcourt for the second consecutive season. Ground said Aguilar is an above-average defender, and gives Tustin solid outside shooting. David Lalazarian, up from the freshman team, needs to provide solid rebounding and scoring immediately. “He’s going to be a player,” Ground said. “I think how he plays in the middle determines how well we will do.” Lalazarian led the freshman team to a 22-2 record last year. Ground said the inexperience of his front line may hurt the Tillers. He said his team may be hard-pressed to repeat their playoff appearance of last year, and thinks Santa Margarita or Newport Harbor shape up as league favorites. “There’s always a shot (at winning league),” he said. “It depends on how hard we work.”
