OXNARD : Man Enters Pleas in Slaying, Robbery
- Share via
A 22-year-old Oxnard man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of murder and robbery in connection with a September shooting near Channel Islands Harbor and a robbery several weeks earlier that netted more than $180,000.
A preliminary hearing for Hector Garcia II was set for Jan. 18.
Garcia was arrested Nov. 14 in San Bernardino County, six weeks after a warrant for his arrest was issued in Ventura County in connection with the slaying of Wayne Mansir, 24, also of Oxnard.
Authorities say Garcia showed up at the family home of Mansir and fired several bullets at the victim, killing him. The two had been friends, and no motive for the shooting has been given.
Ten days before the shooting, a gunman stole more than $180,000 from Smith’s Food & Drug Center, 2401 Saviers Road, Oxnard. Garcia has been charged with one count of robbery in connection with the holdup and one count of murder in the Mansir shooting.
Investigators will not say whether they have evidence linking the two events.
