CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : SACRAMENTO : Nathanson Faces New Accusations
- Share via
The Fair Political Practices Commission has accused former Coastal Commissioner Mark L. Nathanson of violating the state Political Reform Act for failing to report a series of bribes on annual economic statements he was required to file as a commissioner. Nathanson is serving a 4-year, 9-month sentence in the federal prison camp at Dublin after pleading guilty to racketeering and tax evasion charges stemming from his abuse of the appointed post. The civil complaint from the political practices commission charges that Nathanson failed to disclose $208,000 he received from “bribery transactions” between 1987 and 1990--including $25,000 from “Rocky” producer Irwin Winkler and $83,000 from producer-agent Sandy Gallin. Neither Winkler nor Gallin has been accused of wrongdoing. Nathanson faces a fine of up to $10,000 if the charges are upheld. The FPPC requires state officials to report all income, even when it is obtained illegally.
