LOS ANGELES : At Court’s Order, Landlord Gives AIDS Project $5,000

City Atty. James Hahn presented a $5,000 check Monday to AIDS Project Los Angeles--money that came from a landlord who pleaded no contest to safety code violations at an apartment complex.
Gabriel Legmann, 64, of Beverly Hills was required to make the donation as a condition of his probation, Deputy City Atty. Richard Bob said.
Legmann pleaded no contest to five violations of health, fire and safety codes at the two-story, 40-unit apartment complex he owns at 1151-1155 N. Kenmore Ave. in Los Angeles.
Legmann had been ordered to pay $5,307 in fines, and he is barred from reopening the apartment complex until he makes the repairs. Because he is a first-time offender, Legmann was allowed to pay part of his fine as a charitable contribution, Bob said.
