Evarts, the Sea View League’s co-most valuable player who averaged 15.4 points in the regular season, has picked up the pace in the postseason. She is averaging 19.3 points and has led the Sailors into their first Southern Section final. Saturday, she scored a game-high 24 points and the Sailors beat Newbury Park, 43-41. “Basically, she just carried us,” assistant coach Jack Jakosky said. Evarts scored 19 points in the Sailors’ 59-32 victory over El Dorado in the quarterfinals. The Sailors will play Brea-Olinda for the Division III-AA title Saturday.
Other notables:
* Jessica Eggleston, Cypress, averaged 34.5 points and 16.5 rebounds in Division II-A victories over Troy and Redondo Beach Redondo Union.
* Leticia Oseguera, Mater Dei, scored 18 points in each of two Division I-A victories, 65-62 over Cerritos and 70-50 over Quartz Hills.
* Trisha Steiner, Mater Dei, scored two goals in the Monarchs’ upset of Edison in the Division I soccer playoffs.
* Erin Stovall, Woodbridge, scored 15 points and made two free throws to send a Division II-AA playoff with Oxnard Rio Mesa into overtime.
