A 50-year-old assistant superintendent for the Newport Mesa Unified District has been appointed superintendent of schools for San Marino.
Thomas Godley was selected last week by the Board of Education after a unanimous vote. Godley, chosen after an extensive statewide search, will assume his new position March 28.
At Newport Mesa, Godley was responsible for budget, facilities and support services, and was also the district’s chief labor negotiator. He has a master’s degree in English literature and a doctorate in educational administration from USC.
Godley has signed a three-year contract with the district and will be paid $87,500 annually. He is married and has a 23-year-old son.
