“Apex,” a science-fiction film about a time traveler from the future playing at selected theaters, and “Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend,” a Japanese animated fantasy playing at the Sunset 5, also open Friday. Because Republic Pictures and Tara Releasing, respectively, did not make the films available for screenings, The Times reviews will appear Monday.
