PORT HUENEME : 1 Dead, 4 Hurt as Car Smashes Into Pole

A 20-year-old Port Hueneme woman was killed early Sunday when the car she was riding in crashed into a utility pole at high speed and sheared in half, authorities said.
Coroner’s officials said Veronica Luna sustained multiple injuries after the car hit the pole on West Hueneme Road near Casper Road in Port Hueneme shortly after 4 a.m.
Four other people, including the driver, 20-year-old Gustavo R. Tapia Jr. of Oxnard, and passengers Monica Ramirez, 20, of Oxnard; Galvino Romero, 20, of Oxnard, and Julie Luna, 19, of Port Hueneme were injuries and were treated and released from local hospitals, according to California Highway Patrol Officer P. Cole.
Cole said Tapia was later arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence and booked into the Ventura County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.
