COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Amaya Helps Saddleback Win in Golf

Aki Amaya shot two-under-par 70 to take medalist honors for Saddleback in an Orange Empire Conference golf match Monday at Tijeras Creek.
Saddleback shot 380 to win the match. Palomar (386) was second, Orange Coast (403) third and Rancho Santiago (408) fourth. Saddleback is 15-1, 5-1 in conference.
Chris Beck of Orange Coast and Saddleback’s Jason McDaniel each shot 75.
In Orange Empire Conference softball:
Cypress 1, Rancho Santiago 0 (8)--Kathy Shirley scored from second on a throwing error in the eighth inning for host Cypress (19-5, 1-2).
Shirley started the inning with an infield single, then moved to second on a sacrifice. She scored when Sara Works grounded to third baseman Courtney Kurley, who threw the the ball past first base. Rancho Santiago is 8-7, 2-1.
Fullerton 2, Orange Coast 0--Alicia Robles pitched a two-hitter and scored on a passed ball in the sixth inning for host Fullerton (7-6, 2-0). Melissa Graham scored the Hornets’ other run on a throwing error, also in the sixth. Orange Coast is 9-6-2, 1-2.
Golden West 7, Irvine Valley 1 (suspended, rain)--Irvine Valley had two runners on with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, when play was stopped because of rain. The game will be completed on April 6 at 2 p.m. at Golden West.
