Crone’s trip from Fairview High School to Orange Coast College, located on Fairview Avenue, wasn’t as direct or easy as it might sound; the high school is in Boulder, Colo. After Crone graduated in 1993, he went to Menlo College for a year but didn’t play volleyball for the college. Instead he played for an area club team. But he moved south last summer and has become a force for the OCC team that is 4-0. He had 21 kills as the Pirates won a five-game struggle against Golden West last Friday. He had nine kills as OCC swept San Diego Mesa in three games last Wednesday.
Other notables:
* Brandon Hoalton, Rancho Santiago, pitched 8 2/3 innings to get a 4-3 victory over Saddleback. He is 5-0 this season and 17-0 in his career.
