General Instrument Being Investigated: The Justice Department is investigating whether General Instrument Corp., a leading supplier of cable TV equipment, has a stranglehold on the market for advanced video services, the New York Times reported. A General Instrument spokesman declined to comment. Justice Department spokeswoman Gina Talamona said only that the antitrust division was conducting an investigation of arrangements that affect the cable industry, the paper said, and would not discuss which companies are being looked at.
