Orange Country: The nation said “Howdy” to a new Orange County publication when That’s Country hit national newsstands in January. The magazine, which sells for $3.75 a copy, started local publication last April to cover the country-Western lifestyle, said Christopher Burkhardt, editor-in-chief.
“There are a dozen magazines that cover country music,” he said. “We cover the lifestyle, everything from dancing to fashion to household furnishings.”
In Orange County? Sure.
The Costa Mesa office is “far enough from the bustle of L.A. and its drugstore cowboys, and it’s close enough to the ranches of South County,” said Burkhardt, a Kalamazoo, Mich., native.
The magazine prints 175,000 copies monthly, plans to switch to a twice-monthly format in April and may turn a profit within two years, Burkhardt said.
