Fight Breaks Out Among 14 Prison Inmates

CASTAIC — Fourteen African American and Latino inmates were subdued by sheriff’s deputies after a fight started at 8:40 p.m. Saturday in a medium-security dormitory at Peter J. Pitchess Honor Rancho, authorities said.
Two inmates sustained minor cuts on their backs, and deputies recovered three broken brooms, jail officials said. No jail deputies were hurt in the incident, which is the latest in a series of fights between Latino and African American inmates.
In January, more than 1,000 black and Latino inmates fought at Pitchess in what officials described as one of the biggest brawls in recent years in the county jail system.
The cause of the latest disturbance is under investigation.
