VALLEY / VENTURA ROUNDUP : Granada Hills’ Angel Ties Course Record

Granada Hills High junior Darren Angel equaled a course record with an eight-under-par 64 to win the City Section 5-A Top-Four golf match Monday at Knollwood Golf Course in Granada Hills.
Angel, a third-team Rolex junior All-American and the defending City Section individual boys’ champion, had seven birdies, an eagle and one bogey. He shot a seven-under 29 on the back nine.
His eagle came on the 16th hole, a 517-yard par-5. Angel hit his second shot to within three feet and made the putt.
BASEBALL
Newbury Park 7, Buena 0--Keith Smith pitched a shutout to lead the Panthers (3-3) to a nonleague victory at Buena. Smith (3-0) has completed all three of his starts this season, allowing only one earned run in 22 innings.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Granada Hills d. Sherman Oaks CES, 15-11, 15-9, 15-5--Mike DiSimone had 16 kills and Victor Chang had 37 assists to lead the Highlanders (3-1, 1-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference opener.
Birmingham d. North Hollywood, 15-7, 15-6, 16-14--John Chidester had nine kills and Scott James had 41 assists to lead the Braves (4-0, 1-0 in conference play) in Valley Pac-8 Conference match.
Sylmar d. Monroe, 7-15, 15-10, 15-8, 14-16, 15-9--Edward Perry had 36 kills and Matt Garcia had 65 assists to lead the host Spartans in a Valley Pac-8 Conference opener.
Poly d. Canoga Park, 17-15, 15-11, 14-16, 15-12--Setter Paul Boonyanetr set a school record with 64 assists for Poly.
Reseda d. Kennedy 9-15, 16-14, 15-9, 15-9--Pat Galan led the Regents with 22 kills in a Northwest Valley Conference match.
Taft d. Chatsworth, 6-15, 15-8, 15-11, 15-17, 15-10--Nima Fariman had four of his six aces in the deciding game, helping the host Toreadors rally from an 8-2 deficit to win a Northwest Valley Conference opener.
Thousand Oaks d. Simi Valley, 15-2, 15-4, 15-4--Jason Hartman had six kills and David Fotolov had digs to lead the Lancers (2-0, 2-0) in a Marmonte League match at Royal High.
