Braxton Wins Top Soul Train Awards

Pop-soul balladeer Toni Braxton was the big winner at the eighth-annual Soul Train Music Awards at the Shrine Auditorium on Tuesday night, claiming two trophies: best female album for “Toni Braxton” and best single for “Breathe Again.”
Singer Whitney Houston added to the collection of Grammys and American Music Awards she won this year by taking song of the year honors for “I Will Always Love You” from “The Bodyguard” soundtrack. She also received the Sammy Davis Jr. Entertainer of the Year award.
Other winners: male album, Babyface’s “For the Cool in You”; new artist, H-Town; jazz album, Kenny G’s “Breathless”; group album, Silk’s “Lose Control”; rap album, Onyx’s “Bac . . . up” , and music video, Janet Jackson’s “If.”
