An 18-year-old Thousand Oaks man was being held in Ventura County Jail on Monday night after being hit by a car while riding a stolen bicycle, authorities said.
Victor Maddens was riding the bicycle south on Hodencamp Road about 10 p.m. Saturday when he was struck by a car driven by 29-year-old Sheila Berger of Thousand Oaks, Ventura County sheriff’s deputies said.
Deputies said Maddens had ridden through a stop sign at the Wilbur Road intersection when he was hit.
Maddens suffered a broken knee cap. He was treated at an area hospital and transferred to the County Jail infirmary, where he was being held on suspicion of possessing stolen property. His bail was set at $5,000.
He is scheduled to be arraigned today in Ventura County Municipal Court.
Deputies said the bike Maddens was riding had been reported stolen several weeks earlier.
Authorities said the driver was not cited or held.
