LOS ANGELES : MTA Buses Examined in Hit-Run Investigation

Investigators examined more than half a dozen MTA buses Monday in an attempt to determine if any was involved in a fatal crash involving a bicyclist.
“It’s a hit-and-run investigation. The driver and the bus have not been identified,” said Detective Mike Fischer of the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division.
Bicyclist Otto Poggio, 31, died at the scene of the 6:53 a.m. accident at Santa Monica Boulevard and Gower Street, Fischer said.
Poggio and the bus were both eastbound, Fischer said, and as the bus passed it collided with the bike.
Poggio “lost control and went down in the roadway, at which time there was a second contact,” Fischer said. “The bus continued eastbound. It didn’t stop.”
It was unclear if the bus actually rolled over the man, Fischer said.
None of the drivers admitted knowing about the accident, Fischer said, and “there’s no indication of which bus it is.”
