GTE Directories Loses Lawsuit: A federal jury in Los Angeles awarded a small electrical contracting firm $5.2 million in a breach-of-contract suit with GTE Directories Corp. Jessen Electric & Services Co. of Seattle filed suit in 1992 after it said GTE withdrew a 35% discount available for yellow pages advertising anywhere in the country. The company, which also has operations in Oregon and Northern California, was also unable to advertise in GTE yellow pages unless it agreed to relinquish the discount, said Jessen’s attorney. A spokeswoman for GTE said the company is studying its options, including appealing the award.
