PASADENA : Library Director Resigns for Job in Indianapolis

Pasadena Library Director Edward M. Szynaka, who led the successful 1993 campaign for a library tax, has resigned his position, effective Sept. 9, to head the larger Indianapolis/Marion County Library system.
“It’s a very exciting opportunity, one that I couldn’t pass up,” said Szynaka, 46, who has headed Pasadena’s library system for 14 years.
The Indianapolis system, with its 22 branches, serves 1.2 million people compared with the 130,000 people served by Pasadena libraries, Szynaka said. He starts at $88,000 a year, about the same as his Pasadena salary.
Szynaka is leaving behind a financially stable library system, which had services restored after the passage of the library tax.
