City and state officials will host a farewell roast tonight for Rudy Castruita, the departing superintendent of the Santa Ana Unified School District.
Presenters are expected to include Sen. Marian Bergeson (R-Newport Beach), Santa Ana Mayor Daniel H. Young and Board of Education members Sal Mendoza, Robert W. Balen and Audrey Yamagata-Noji, district spokeswoman Diane Thomas said.
Other attendees include county Supervisors Roger Stanton and Gaddi Vasquez, Rancho Santiago College Chancellor Vivian Blevins and Councilman Robert L. Richardson, Thomas said.
The event will also double as a benefit, raising money for the Santa Ana Education Foundation. The roast will be at 6 p.m. at the Turnip Rose, 3 Imperial Promenade at Main Street and MacArthur Boulevard in Santa Ana.
Tickets are $25 for community members and nonprofit organizations and $50 to $125 for sponsor and benefactor levels, she said.
The Santa Ana Education Foundation provides student scholarships and mini-grants for teachers, Thomas said.
Castruita, who has served as Santa Ana Unified’s superintendent for seven years, will take over on Aug. 1 as the superintendent for San Diego County schools.
