LA HABRA : Throngs Expected at 46th Corn Festival

More than 60,000 people are expected to attend the 46th annual Corn Festival, which began Friday night and continues today with a parade at 9:30 a.m.
Featuring celebrities, marching bands, horse groups, antique cars and floats, it will travel about a mile east on La Habra Boulevard from Idaho Street to El Centro-Lions Park on Cypress Street.
This year’s grand marshal is Paul Goldenberg, a local businessman and philanthropist.
Corn Festival chairman Chuck Overbey said he expects to sell 15,000 ears of corn this year.
The La Habra Host Lions Club sponsors the festival, which began as a way to raise money for local charities in 1948. Since then, nonprofit organizations and clubs have offered corn, other food, rides and game booths at the park. Last year’s event raised about $45,000.
