Canine Resents Being Used as a Metaphor

Allan Sloan’s “Corporate Carnivore Bites the Hand That Defends Him” (July 24) put my dog in a real snit. He resents being used as a metaphor for Victor Posner. He’s sensitive that way, just like Falla--remember Falla? He was sensitive too.

Ralph, my dog, is upset by other financial news in your newspaper. He knows darned well when Alan Greenspan raises interest rates, he’ll get the cheap dog biscuits, because the bond market’s been trashed. Apparently his dog friends are no better off. They must have told him that they get bargain-brand dog food because of our poor trade policy, the job-poor recovery, the downsizing.

When I read Ralph the latest financial news, he raises his eyebrows; he hates that global market with its effect on our work force. No more vacations, fewer outings, silent walks with his people friend.

He thinks Alan Greenspan should get a dog with a good nose for inflation so he doesn’t overdo it again. What’s good for Wall Street is not necessarily good for dogs or their friends.
