The breakup of a mob-run operation proved that the United States is more than a destination for cocaine and heroin. Authorities said the outfit sent huge quantities of drugs from a New York pizzeria to Italy. More than 100 people were named as participants in the scheme that allegedly brought cocaine and heroin from Colombia and other points to New York, where some was distributed locally and the rest sent to Italy. Authorities said the distribution headquarters for at least the last year was a single pizzeria, Famous Original Ray’s at 43rd Street and Third Avenue in mid-Manhattan.
