No. 1 Sailors Head Volleyball Tournament Field

Newport Harbor, ranked No. 1 in the Southern Section Division I, and the best girls’ volleyball teams in the county will play in the Orange County Championships this weekend.
Pool play begins today in the Division I tournament at Ocean View, Huntington Beach and Edison high schools. The Division I playoffs are at Edison on Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m., with the finals scheduled for 4 p.m.
Two-time defending State and Southern Section champion Corona del Mar, Laguna Beach, Capistrano Valley and Calvary Chapel also are entered in the Division I field and should test Newport Harbor.
The Sailors, led by all-county players Misty May and Melissa Schutz, return all but one player from last season’s team, which lost to Corona del Mar in the State and section final.
The Division II field, featuring Ocean View, Cypress and Valencia, will finish its tournament at Westminster High on Saturday.
