Weekend Box Office : An Arresting Opening for ‘TimeCop’
- Share via
Despite the usual post-Labor Day slowdown, box-office receipts again topped the comparable figures for 1993, as they have every weekend since July 8.
Universal’s “TimeCop” accounted for a little more than one in four tickets sold, becoming the first Jean-Claude Van Damme picture to land in first place. “It’s one of the best September openings ever,” notes John Krier, president of Exhibitor Relations, which tracks box-office performances.
* Robert Redford’s “Quiz Show,” a drama based on the 1950s quiz show scandals, turned in a strong performance for Disney’s Hollywood Pictures in a 13-city limited run. This Friday, it will open on 220 more screens nationwide.
