United Paramount Unveils Its Lineup : Television: Film studio’s move to small screen starts in January. A new ‘Star Trek’ series is the kickoff show.

The United Paramount network, one of two new broadcast networks being launched by major film studios, on Wednesday announced its premiere lineup of dramas and comedies that will debut in January with a new “Star Trek” series.

Lucille S. Salhany, president and chief executive officer for the network, told a news conference that she believes United Paramount will triumph over the network being launched by Warner Bros. because of a stronger station lineup.

She said the network, which initially will program only two nights a week, will be seen locally on KCOP-TV Channel 13.

United Paramount will kick off Jan. 16 with the two-hour premiere of “Star Trek: Voyager,” which thereafter will be seen Mondays at 8 p.m., starting Jan. 23.

On Jan. 17 at 8 p.m., “Marker,” starring Richard Grieco, will debut. Grieco plays the estranged son of a wealthy businessman who dies, leaving him a lifetime of markers and debts.

“Marker” will be followed at 9 p.m. by “The Watcher,” an anthology series set in Las Vegas.

Premiering Jan. 23 are two comedies, “Platypus Man,” starring comedian Richard Jeni as the host of a cable cooking show, and “Pig Sty,” about five men sharing a two-room apartment. The comedies will air from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Also in development as a backup series is another drama, “Legend,” a Western starring Richard Dean Anderson, the former star of “MacGyver.”

Salhany said she hopes United Paramount will expand to three nights a week within the next couple of years.

Warner Bros.’ WB network also plans to launch in January, with one night of programming that will be seen locally on KTLA-TV Channel 5. WB also is developing a three-hour block of Saturday-morning children’s programming for the fall of 1995.
