Freeway Closed for Check of Power Lines

GARDEN GROVE — Authorities closed a short stretch of the Garden Grove Freeway on Wednesday to check overhead power lines that reportedly produced sparks when a truck passed underneath.
Officials said an inspection found no problems with the wires, and the freeway was reopened 40 minutes later.
A spokesman for Southern California Edison said two overhead wires may have touched and sparked when a power pole near the freeway was accidentally jostled by a heavy truck. The resulting short circuit briefly knocked out power to about 2,500 customers, said area manager Brad Martin.
There were no injuries. A motorist reported seeing sparks along the overhanging line when the truck passed beneath. Traffic was diverted onto surface streets at Harbor Boulevard until 1:20 p.m., said California Highway Patrol officer Joan Rivas.
