Countywide : Access Bus Service Delays Subscriptions
- Share via
Heavy demand by disabled people and senior citizens to use the county’s Access bus service has forced transit officials to delay adding new subscribers until March.
Orange County Transportation Authority officials said riders who have used the service on a regular basis are having a hard time making appointments.
Under federal law, half of the rides provided by the shuttle service can be for these scheduled services, said John Standiford, an OCTA spokesman. The other half must be for onetime, on-demand service.
The Access service has exceeded its share of scheduled calls, so it cannot accept new subscribers right now, he said. Officials expect the demand to ease by March.
Frail seniors who cannot become subscribers must use the on-demand services or regular bus lines.
