Suspect in Slaying of Vendor Arrested

An 18-year-old man accused of fatally shooting an ice cream vendor and injuring his wife in Inglewood was arrested Saturday with the help of a call-in tip, authorities said.
Antonio Dejaun Jones was arrested about 4:15 p.m. in Southwest Los Angeles after someone recognized him as a suspect in the Nov. 15 slaying and called police.
“He initially denied he was (Jones) and gave us a false name,” said Sgt. John Incontro of the Los Angeles Police Department. “But after checking with Inglewood police, we were able to identify him by some distinctive tattoos.”
Inglewood police had publicized his identity and mounted a statewide search for Jones after witnesses identified him as the man who shot and killed Refugio Garcia, 44, and stole Garcia’s ice cream truck with his wife, Carmen Osorio, 42, inside.
After a brief drive in the truck, Jones allegedly shot Osorio in the arm, stole her purse and ran, police said.
Garcia and his wife had just finished selling ice cream to neighborhood children.
