Con-Way Western Express to Expand Trucking Operations in the Northwest

BUENA PARK — Con-Way Western Express said Tuesday that it is investing $9 million to expand its operations to the Pacific Northwest and Vancouver, British Columbia.
The regional trucking company, based in Buena Park, said it is increasing its fleet by 300 trucks to open service centers in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Canada. It is also adding more than 100 employees to staff 22 new facilities.
A company spokesman said Con-Way has grown alongside increasing demand for regional trucking services in recent years. As companies have turned more to short turnaround strategies to downsize their inventories, he said, the need for regional truckers has grown.
Con-Way makes only next-day or two-day deliveries within small regional areas of the United States.
In addition to serving the western United States, Con-Way has centers in the Midwest and South.
The company opened its doors with 137 employees and 150 trucks in 1983. Including its Pacific Northwest expansion, Con-Way now employs 2,500 people and operates a fleet of 3,600 trucks making deliveries to 11 states.
