THE PREPS : CIF Votes to Add Pole Vault for Girls This Season
- Share via
The CIF State Federated Council has voted to adopt girls’ pole vault as a scoring event at the league, section and state level beginning this spring.
California was the first state to sponsor a pole vault exhibition for girls at the state championship level in 1994. California also was the first state to propose the addition of girls’ pole vault as a scoring event, though Oregon became the first state to adopt its inclusion.
The Southern Section, at its Jan. 26 meeting, voted against the recommendation, favoring instead the introduction of girls’ pole vault as a scoring event for the 1996 season.
“The section voted to oppose it because of safety reasons and because it was coming so late, the season was almost upon us,” said Dean Crowley, section commissioner. “But our leagues and section will implement pole vault for girls and do a good job with it.”
