Volleyball Coaches Honor CSUN’s Baer as Top Player

Jon Baer, a senior middle blocker on Cal State Northridge’s men’s volleyball team, has been named as the national player of the week by the American Volleyball Coaches’ Assn.
Baer had 65 kills in the Matadors’ victories over Long Beach State and Brigham Young last week. He has posted 20 or more kills in each of Northridge’s four matches this season and is averaging 7.3 kills.

Northridge has moved from ninth to third in the AVCA Top 15 poll, based on its victories over then-No. 3-ranked Long Beach and No. 8 BYU.
UCLA (5-0) is ranked first and Stanford is second (5-1).
Basketball
The Cal Lutheran women’s team is sixth in the Columbus Multimedia Division III Team Efficiency Ratings. The Regals (19-0) were ranked seventh last week.
Soccer
The Limemanators and Pink Lightning, two AYSO girls’ teams from Canyon Country, have advanced to the sectional playoffs, in Bakersfield later this month.
Softball
Signups for the Shilos, a girls’ 16-and-under fast-pitch Junior Olympic team, are under way.
