Woman Killed in Head-On Collision

PALMDALE — An elderly woman was killed Friday afternoon on Sierra Highway when a car crossed the center line and struck her van head-on.
No other injuries were reported in the collision, which sheriff’s deputies blamed on rain-slick roads and high winds. The car and the van spun along the highway near the intersection of Avenue P, causing a late-model pickup truck to flip. That driver walked away uninjured.
It was not known if the woman killed, whose identity had not been released late Friday night pending notification of her family, had been wearing a seat belt when her van was struck.
