Fry’s May Open Anaheim Store

ANAHEIM — Fry’s Electronics Inc., a warehouse-style retailer of computer and electronics goods, is negotiating with Anaheim city officials to open a new store at a former defense industry site.
If approved, city officials said, the new warehouse store will create 300 to 400 jobs and will generate at least $200,000 a year in new revenue for the city.
The City Council tonight will consider whether to approve a 21-year agreement with the Palo Alto company that would clear the way for Fry’s to take over a 12.4-acre site at 3370 E. La Palma Ave. The 144,000-square-foot manufacturing facility was formerly used by Rockwell International Corp.
Fry’s has asked that city redevelopment funds be used to offset their costs in moving to an industrial part of the city, an undesirable location for a retail operation. Neither the city nor Fry’s will disclose how much the company is seeking in city financial assistance.
The amount of the aid and the store’s projected opening date still must be negotiated before the city can approve the agreement, city officials said.
